Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.

When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys' expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what's right.

Including the now-classic songs "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," and "Santa Fe," Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.

AUDITIONS

Auditions for this production will be held on Saturday 28th Jan between 10:00am-3:30pm.

Students will be seen in 90-min blocks with potential offers for a callback

between 4:00-7:30pm that same day.

PERFORMANCE

Our Intermediates will be involved in 4 performances!

 

TECH REHEARSAL:   Saturday 3rd June

SHOW DAY:   Saturday 10th June (2 show day)

SHOW DAY:   Sunday 11th June (2 show day)

WHO

This production is part of our INTERMEDIATE Program for students in Grade 9 

and will perform alongside our younger ELEMENTARY students.

​

REHEARSAL

Weekly rehearsals will be held on Friday afternoons from 5:00-7:00pm at ROCKIT LAUNCHPAD STUDIOS 

(36 Old Cleveland Rd, Capalaba, 4157)

and will commence on Friday 27th Jan, 2023. 

 

Classes run following the QLD State School Calendar, observing QLD Public Holidays. 

 

FULL DAY REHEARSALS

There will be three Full Day Rehearsals throughout the Semester so our Elementary students can learn their blocking, extra songs and dances and piece together the show with the Elementary cast.  

These dates are:

Saturday 18th February, Saturday 25th March, Sunday 7th May

(Times TBC)

 

EXTENDED REHEARSALS

As we near closer to the show, we extend our rehearsals a little longer (4pm -7:30pm) so that we can run the show with costumes within the rehearsal time. 

These dates are: 19th May, 26th May, 2nd June, 9th June

FEES

Each of our Musical Theatre performance programs run over two terms, full fees and discounts are viewable HERE.

 

A Costume Hire fee of $65 (inc. GST) will be added to your Term 1 Invoice so the team can get your costumes ordered and ready for the musical in Term 2.
We always endeavour to keep costume costs at a minimum, so some simple costumes will be supplied by students while the more complex items will be supplied by ROCKIT Productions.
